Pet Portrait FAQs

  • Every portrait is different, but most pet portraits take between 5 and 15 workdays to finish. However, during busy periods, there might be a wait to start your portrait.

I can give you an up to date turnaround times over email.

  • The best photos are clear, bright and in focus. This is especially important for pets that are dark in colour. It’s also best if you can see all of your pet in the photo, as my portraits don't have backgrounds.

Not sure which photo to use? Send them all! More photos mean more choices.

You can find more tips on picking a photo in my guide here.

  • A 50% deposit is required to secure your commission slot. Once the details of your pet's portrait are agreed upon, you will receive an invoice with information on how to pay via bank transfer.

  • Your painting will be carefully protected for shipping. Each piece is packaged in a cellophane bag and placed between strong cardboard sheets to keep it flat.

For details on shipping providers, shipping times and costs, visit my Prices page.

  • Yes, I can add your pet's ashes into their portrait.

When filling in the booking request form, tick the option to include ashes, and I will provide you with the address to ship your pet's ashes to. I recommend sending these by a recorded, signed-for service, such as Royal Mail Special Delivery.

For these type of memorial portraits, I only require a small amount of ashes - a teaspoon or two at most. These should be sealed in a small plastic bag - grip seal or Ziploc sandwich bags are the best option - and clearly labelled with your name and email address so that they can be identified.

  • You can request up to two rounds of changes on your portrait once it is finished. Any changes after those first two will incur an additional charge - details can be found in my terms and conditions.

  • I can paint almost any animal - we just need good pictures! I often paint dogs and cats, but I've also painted rabbits, horses, snakes, and even a hermit crab!

  • I use many different materials - deciding what gets used is very intuitive and varies from one portrait to the next.

I mostly use watercolours, gouache, acrylic paint and coloured pencils, but I sometimes also use pastels, charcoal, or ink.

All materials used in my portraits meet the highest lightfastness and permanence standards. This ensures your artwork retains its vibrancy and detail for years to come.

  • There are mounted options available for all of my standard portrait sizes - see my ‘Prices’ page for more information.

Framing is not something I can offer at this time.
